WHO TELLS MY STORY:
Portraits of and by women

SUNDAY 4TH JULY 2021 - 1PM

MEZZO BETHAN LANGFORD WITH PIANIST KEVAL SHAH

Keval and Bethan have concocted an intriguing exploration of the ways we encounter  women’s lives and experiences in songs, whether through the male gaze or in poetry and music by women stepping up and taking centre stage.  Their programme includes both, in music by Mozart, Haydn, Chaminade, Crumb and Dove.

 BETHAN LANGFORD

 KEVAL SHAH

Bethan has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Heidelberger Frühling Festival, Aldeburgh, the Buxton and Oxford Lieder Festivals, and the International Lied Festival, Zeist. She was on Scottish Opera ‘emerging artists’ scheme and is a founding member of Schubert & Co, a vocal ensemble specialising in part song and lieder. Future engagements include appearances at Scottish Opera, recitals at the Edinburgh International Festival and her English National Opera debut.

The Guardian found Keval’s playing ‘marvellously fresh, humane, and immediate’ . Keval, who has performed twice at our festival and is now Lecturer of Lieder at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, divides his time between teaching in Finland and appearing in recital at venues and festivals across Europe. He is also a contributor and performer for BBC Radio 3.
