SINCE SHE WHOM I LOVED
Teatime recital at 4.30pm
29th June 2025
Nicholas Mulroy - tenor
Jâms Coleman - piano

Jâms writes:
‘Our programme takes one of our favourite song cycles - Fauré’s exquisite Poème d’un Jour - as its basis for an exploration through the four stages of love: Meeting, Ecstasy, Love and Despair.
We have chosen some of our favourite songs for this recital and have included texts written in four different languages (English, German, Spanish and French) to show how this universal subject matter has been expressed through the lens of different cultures and song traditions’.
Jâms has a duo partnership with cellist Laura van der Heijden and in art-song has performed in the Leeds Lieder, Aldeburgh and Oxford International Song Festivals, the Wigmore Hall, and has recorded several discs.
“Coleman’s playing is outstanding, with thrilling variety…exquisite touch…and imagination at the piano” Natasha Loges, BBC Music Magazine
A committed recitalist, Nicholas has appeared regularly at the Wigmore Hall singing a wide range of repertoire including Purcell, both Bach Passions, Schubert, and the complete Britten Canticles. He has sung Janacek’s Diary of One who Vanished for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, for the Philharmonia at the RFH, and as part of the Aurora Janacek Festival, and given recitals at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, and festivals in Maribor, Ludlow, Bath and Orkney.
They perform songs by Quilter, Britten, Debussy, Hahn, Fauré, both Schumanns and Guastavino.
